A UN plane that crashed on Monday at an airport in the Democratic Republic of Congo belonged to Georgia’s Airzena airline, Georgian TV said.
The plane broke in half and caught fire when the pilot tried to land in heavy rain.
Twenty people were killed and 12 were injured. “We have been serving the UN for three years and that plane was last tested on December 22, when it was deemed fully functional,” a Airzena press spokeswoman said.
The plane had reportedly flown from Goma via Kisangani, a city in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Twenty UN workers were listed as on board the flight. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. TBILISI, April 4 (RIA Novosti)
