Government to increase support for NGOs

The Russian government will increase its support, including financial, for non-governmental organizations, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday.

“We [Russian government] should increase financial and information support to non-governmental organizations of various profiles,” Medvedev said at the Global Policy Forum in Yaroslavl. “Second, [we] should assist citizens in access to new independent sources of information to include the promotion of digital television and broadband internet,” he continued.

The president also said that the government should adapt to modern life, as well as preserve and increase social diversity as a major national asset.

The Global Policy Forum titled The Modern World in the Age of Social Diversity opened in Yaroslavl, Russia on September 7. Experts are discussing global security, local conflicts and efforts to fight social inequality.
