Group of 135 Rope-Jump Off Russian Bridge

Setting an unofficial world record, 135 people rope-jumped at the same time last weekend from a railroad bridge in the city of Tver.

The jumpers participated in the 5th Mass Ropejumping Festival, held in Russia by enthusiasts of this peculiar activity since 2008, Tvernews.ru said on Wednesday.

This year, the annual event was staged in Tver, a regional capital 160 kilometers northwest of Moscow, the report said.

The mass jump, which attracted participants from all over the former Soviet Union, set the world record for the number of people simultaneously jumping off a bridge when tied to a rope, the report said. No official record keeping is done in rope jumping, which was popularized by American athlete Dan Osman, who was killed in 1998 when his rope failed him during a jump off the Leaning Tower rock in Yosemite National Park.
