Privet - Over eight years ago I met the most wonderful Russian woman in the world! What started as friends on the Internet per e-mails and text messages, became a dream come true for this American. I moved to Russia seven years ago and have never, one time in all those years, regretted that move to Russia. In fact, I have realized over the years that Russia is safe, incredibly fantastic and a wonderfully explicit country to live and travel in. I have been lucky in many ways and meeting a normal Russian woman whose main goal is not to leave Russia, that was a blessing in disguise, as I was the one who had to make the hard decision to leave my country. It was a decision that I have never ever regretted and it also opened my eyes to a whole new world of ideas and thinking's. So welcome to Windows to Russia and stay a spell, sip a cup of coffee. ‘Holy Sh*t’ in a Courtroom: A Look during a Pussy Riot Trial

by admin — Categories: Russian News — Tags: Leave a comment

There was shrill music, lemon-colored masks and immature ladies dancing subsequent to dedicated icons, church janitor Yelena Zhukova pronounced in a courtroom.

“What kind of song was it?” asked invulnerability counsel Violetta Volkova.

“I don’t know,” Zhukova admitted. “But it wasn’t a Christian sound.”

Zhukova finds her sacrament sensibilities annoyed by a brief domestic sing-and-dance series that 3 balaclava-ed members of a womanlike punk rope Pussy Riot staged in her Epiphany Cathedral during Yelokhovo in downtown Moscow in February.

Three days later, Pussy Riot steady it in Moscow’s Christ a Savior Cathedral. Now they’re confronting 7 years in jail over a stunt.

The box polarized Russian society, where radical conservatives champion it as an conflict on normal values, while skeptics – including many believers – insist it is punish on interest of a authorities angry by a hoax of those church hierarchs who categorically validate President Vladimir Putin.

The conference of 3 immature feminists concerned in a box is in full pitch in a Moscow district probity starting this week, and it looks like zero if not dredging a inlet of a nation’s subconscious – set to finish with a jail term, a invulnerability says.

Don’t Sit, Don’t Smirk, Don’t Ask

The daily event during a Pussy Riot conference starts with a bench, that probity marshals use as a roadblock for reporters.

“Don’t lay on a stairway, it’s dirty,” a lucent organise offers by approach of a review starter to a immature womanlike contributor with a pixie cut.

He goes on to surprise her that he does not trust in American conspiracy. America is usually muscles, England’s a genuine understanding – remember how a black purged a universe of opposition royalty, including a Romanovs, he insisted.

He would not be smiling when a two-hour wait is over and a courtroom is packed, barking during reporters to never brave giggle and swallowing his “fu—”s as a finish of a phrase.

His call goes unheeded: there are copiousness of opportunities to smirk, starting with a defense’s ask to mislay Judge Marina Syrova from a conference over her purported disposition in preference of a prosecution. The request, a fifth in 4 days, is to be reviewed by Syrova herself, and, predictably, ends in a dustbin.

Legal quirks interfuse a Russian probity system: a new censure by whistleblower Alexei Navalny opposite Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin had to be filed with Bastrykin. No one batted an eyelid – solely for Bastrykin, who soon had an aged box opposite Navalny reopened.

Navalny was set to seem during a Pussy Riot conference on Thursday to attest as a declare for a defense, though from inside a courtroom a awaiting seemed like watchful for Godot while listening to a invulnerability and charge trade potential offenses, a decider gnawing “question disallowed!” each dual mins and eventually banning Navalny from testifying.

The high indicate of a day is a antic explosve call that gets everybody kicked out in a street, where a imperishable male with a grey brave shouts: “Our women are free! Putin’s womanlike slaves are not!” A bomb-sniffing dog that dozed a approach by a conference gets a notation in a spotlight, though produces no surprises, and a throng lines behind for entry, finish with a bag hunt that fails to prevent someone’s hip flask full of comfortable whisky.

The Balaclava Offense

Navalny has zero to do with Pussy Riot, though a conference grew in range over all expectations, roughly like a carcinoma.

Hooliganism is both an executive and a rapist offense in Russia, depending on a sobriety of a offense. Pussy Riot supporters contend a 3 girls – prepared feminists in their 20s, dual of them with children – usually validate for a smaller penalty.

But a charge insists a women were fanning eremite loathing by dancing in a church and shouting, “Holy sh*t” and “Mother of God, anathema Putin!”

Dancing in a church in masks is a defilement of church rules, janitor Zhukova, a declare for a prosecution, told a probity in a still voice of a Christian sufferer during her possess trial.

She unsuccessful to mention a rule, presumably given there is none, and a usually concept anathema of a kind in Orthodox Christianity prohibits women from going to church bare-headed – something apparently ruled out by a balaclavas.

Pussy Riot members pronounced they meant no offense to believers, and their uncover was quite domestic – a explain that Navalny was meant to prove.

But prosecutors sought to downplay a domestic angle and prominence a blasphemy, major a defense’s objections with a assistance of Syrova’s many “question disallowed!”

“Do we trust it excusable to contend ‘Holy sh*t!’ in a church?” a prosecutor asked a father of one of a defendants in a courtroom.

The male denied it, indicating out Russia’s ancient tradition of skomorokhi – roving actors afforded a grade of leisure of debate that apparently exceeded that authorised to Pussy Riot. Of course, a skomorokhi infrequently faced blazing during a stake, though this was not mentioned during a hearing.

The prosecutor’s logic also enclosed “so-called feminism” and “so-called complicated art” as drift for a defendants’ purported misbehavior. He was apparently not into a topic, job distinguished art censor Yekaterina Degot an artist, though no one in a courtroom forked out a mistake.

Blame Men in High Towers

Fifty-eight percent of a proletariat believes a jail tenure for a Pussy Riot girls is extreme punishment, compared to 33 percent who validate it, according to a national consult hold by a eccentric pollster Levada in late July. The check lonesome 1,600 respondents and had a domain of blunder of 3.4 commission points.

The list of a group’s unfamiliar supporters swells by a day, braggadocio total from a Red Hot Chili Peppers to a London Mayor Boris Johnson, from film executive Terry Gilliam to a U.S. State Department.

But invulnerability lawyers and many domestic analysts unanimously envision a guilty verdict, that they contend is motionless in a Kremlin, not in a Khamovnichesky District Court.

The Kremlin has been tightening screws on politics given May, when Vladimir Putin was inaugurated as boss notwithstanding months of travel protests opposite his lapse to power. His presidential bid was permitted by a Russian Orthodox Church conduct Patriarch Kirill, who refused to pronounce out on a Pussy Riot box until a conference is over.

Putin’s orator Dmitry Peskov pronounced in Mar that a boss took a disastrous perspective of a group’s “disgusting” stunt, that fueled pundits’ allegations that a box is a summary by a Kremlin to a domestic opponents that open rebuttal would not go unpunished.

“This is a kind of probity we’ve got,” Pussy Riot counsel Nikolai Polozov told reporters sardonically outward a probity building during a wait for a explosve that never was.

The decider refused on Thursday to hear any of a witnesses invited by a defense. Meanwhile, an unnamed declare for a charge fled a building for vague reasons while watchful for her spin and never returned.
