Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), was taken off a Paris-bound flight on Saturday minutes before takeoff after a New York City hotel housekeeper accused him of sexual assault, media reported.
The New York Times reported that Strauss-Kahn, 62, who was widely expected to become the Socialist candidate for the French presidency, was apprehended by detectives of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and turned over to detectives from the Midtown South Precinct.
The New York Police Department took Strauss-Kahn into custody, and he was “being questioned in connection with the sexual assault of a hotel chambermaid earlier this afternoon,” said New York Police Department chief spokesman Paul J. Browne.
“He is being arrested for a criminal sex act, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment,” he said.
The official has not been charged yet.
