Iraq’s major political parties have agreed to form a new coalition government, comprising the country’s main ethnic and religious groups. The acting Prime Minister, Nouri Maliki, will remain as his post. A Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani will get the presidency, while the leader of the Al-Iraqiya party, Iyad Allawi, will head a council for national strategy.
