Japan’s nuke plant accidents prompt emergency drills

The Russian Emergencies Ministry has launched exercises due to accidents at Japanese nuclear power plants. Those involved in the exercises will simulate various scenarios that the situation may follow, including likely radioactive contamination of the Russian Far East. Rescue workers will be drilled to provide for every contingency. According to Russia’s Chief Health Authority Gennady Onishchenko, background radiation in the Russian Far East is currently within normal. Japan’s destructive earthquake resulted in an emergency situation at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant.
