Japan authorities warn people against returning to radiation zone


Japanese government spokesman Yukio Edano warned people earlier evacuated from within 20 kilometers of the crippled Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant against returning home, NHK television said on Wednesday.
Edano said at a news conference that some evacuees had started returning to their homes out of concern for their property.
He called on them to wait a bit longer until the government could guarantee them safety from nuclear fallout.
Edano said the government was working on a program to help those who were evacuated.
Northeastern Japan was hit by an earthquake and tsunami on March 11, which damaged the cooling systems of the Fukushima-1 nuclear reactor.
People were evacuated after radiation leaks were registered in the area.
