Around 1,200 protesters took to the head office of the Tokyo Electric Power Co. in Japan’s capital on Sunday voicing their demands to close the atomic power plants in the country.

The demonstrators marched through the streets of Tokyo calling on to the government and the nuclear company to shut down all nuclear stations not fit for earthquakes and tsunami and to switch to alternative energy sources.  The protesters also demanded that information not be withheld about what’s really going on at the Fukushima-1 plant, and to show more responsibility in handling the catastrophe. They also promised to hold regular protests until the authorities take all necessary measures to deal with the consequences.

A recent survey by Kyodo News agency.released on Sunday shows 58.2 percent of respondents do not approve of the government’s handling of the nuclear crisis at Fukushima power plant.
