ASTANA, September 1 (Itar-Tass) — Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev will address parliamentarians of the two chambers of the Central Asian republic’s parliament that begins its work on Thursday after a summer break.
The president’s address to parliamentarians will lay out the guidelines for their future legislative activities, the chairman of the social and cultural development committee, Akhan Bizhanov, told Itar-Tass.
“At a joint session the president will express his vision of our society’s future development, will set the tasks for parliamentarians and will report on the country’s social and political situation,” he said.
The parliamentarian underlined that the key task Kazakhstan is facing is to implement the program for industrial and innovative development, “which envisages drastic change of the whole economic structure.”
Another important area of work is “social modernization that focuses on raising living standards of the population,” Bizhanov said.
He underlined that these two tasks will remain the priorities for the upcoming session.
Moreover, Bizhanov noted that high on the agenda will be also “the issues of the society’s democratization, higher roles of the parliament and the civil society.”
Among the priority draft laws he mentioned “the law on education that is interconnected with further intellectual development and the republic’s innovative development program.”
“We can say that this is a social and political draft law. The Majilis (the lower house of parliament) has already considered it and submitted a range of proposals, we’ve bee working on it during summer and plan to consider it in September,” Bizhanov said.
