BISHKEK — Kyrgyz security forces say they have arrested a Russian citizen wanted in Russia on terrorism charges, RFE/RL’s Kyrgyz Service reports.
The Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security announced on April 19 that the suspect, who is 38 years old, was apprehended in the village of Belovodskoye in the northern region of Chui.
His name was not disclosed. He was reportedly born in Uzbekistan but has lived in Russia for several years.
Russian officials launched a search for the man three years ago over alleged involvement in the deaths of several policemen in the North Caucasus region.
Kyrgyz security officials say a forged Kyrgyz passport with a different name was found in the suspect’s pocket at the time of his arrest, which was not specified.
