MOSCOW, August 2 (Itar-Tass) — Foreign funds of the Libyan authorities should be used under the UN Security Council’s sanction, the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Middle East and North Africa department, Sergei Vershinin, said on Tuesday.
He recalled that under UN SC Resolution 1970 the Libyan authorities’ financial funds were frozen.
“At present, the talks are underway to unfreeze the assets. We are also taking part in these consultations, but it is necessary to have a clear understanding that these funds will be used only for humanitarian purposes,” he said.
Vershinin noted that “at present, the situation in Libya is deadlocked,” but there is no place for Gaddafi in the country’s democratic future.
