TALLINN, August 11 (Itar-Tass) — The man who opened gunfire and took a hostage at the Estonian defence ministry was killed in a shootout with police, Estonia’s security police chief Martin Arno said on Thursday.
According to witnesses, an armed man broke into the defence ministry building and threatening to open gunfire took a guard hostage. Later he allegedly released the hostage. Then, two shots were heard from the building with an interval of 20 minutes. Ten minutes later, two persons, presumably ministry officials, were said to jump out of a window and flee the scene. Still later, police evacuated the ministry staff.
