MOSCOW, November 28 (RIA Novosti) – A Perm Region mayor awarded on Wednesday perhaps the most awkward of presents to an armless athlete: a brand new iPad.
Sergei Dyakov, mayor of Berezniki, honored 17-year-old Vadim Krichfalushi, a para-taekwondo world champion, with the renowned Apple device shortly after the athlete’s victory in Aruba earlier this week, according to news outlet RosBalt.
Krichfalushi, however, seemed determined to smooth over the awkward situation, promising to learn how to use the iPad with his feet, the outlet reported.
It wasn’t the first time an official has granted an ill-advised gift: two years ago, a visually-impaired paralympian received a television from then-Sverdlovsk Region Governor Alexander Misharin.
