Medvedev calls for not politicizing RF-Ukraine gas cooperation

MOSCOW, August 12 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has called for not politicizing gas cooperation between Russia and Ukraine, a Kremlin official told Itar-Tass on Friday.

On Thursday, “the two countries’ presidents discussed main issues, including Ukraine’s participation in the Customs Union and gas cooperation problems,” he said. “The Russian side stressed the need for compliance with the effective agreements on gas cooperation and inadmissibility of politicizing the issue,” the official said.

“The sides agreed to continue the search for new projects in this sector,” he said.

Moreover, “the Russian side received explanations concerning possible parameters of cooperation between Ukraine and the Customs Union,” he said. “Such cooperation can be built on the principles of Ukraine’s full-fledged accession to the Customs Union. The three-plus-one formula for these goals is unacceptable.”

The two countries’ leaders also discussed in a constructive atmosphere the preparation for a meeting of the state commission and the second regional economic forum due in Donetsk.
