MOLKINO, Krasnodar Territory, August 8 (Itar-Tass) —— President Dmitry Medvedev commended the Defence Ministry’s 10th Airborne Brigade that was one of the first to have repelled the Georgian attack in South Ossetia three years ago.
“Russian peacekeepers, with your comrades-in-arms among them, stood up in the way of the aggression,” Medvedev said on Monday, August 8. “In those dramatic days of trial they fulfilled their duty with honour, sometimes at the cost of their lives,” Medvedev said.
He noted that special task units have to meet very stringent requirements. “One needs not only combat skills, but also the ability to make correct and adequate decisions in a complex situation, and selflessly perform challenging tasks within the shortest time possible,” the president said.
“I have no doubt that you will always defend the interests of Russia and the security of our citizens,” Medvedev said.
