MOSCOW, August 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Dmitry Medvedev dismissed Colonel-General of Police Nikolai Ovchinnikov from the post of the chief of the All-Russian Institute of Advanced Training of the Interior Ministry over the transfer to a new post, the Kremlin press service reported on Saturday.
The president also dismissed Colonel of Police Alexei Shishko from the post of the deputy chief of the Interior Ministry’s economic security department.
Nikolai Ovchinnikov was relieved from the post over a new appointment, the chief of the Interior Ministry’s department for cooperation with civil institutions and mass media Valery Gribakin told Itar-Tass on Saturday. “The Council of CIS Interior Ministers approved unanimously Ovchinnikov as director of the bureau for the struggle against organized crime and other dangerous crimes in the CIS states,” Gribakin said.
These organized criminal groups are transnational and a well-known and experienced official should be in charge of the struggle against them. “General Ovchinnikov is just this kind of person, who is well aware in all CIS states as a true professional. He has headed the Interior Ministry’s department against the organized crime and terrorism for a long time,” Gribakin underlined.
