ULAN UDE, August 24 (Itar-Tass) — President Dmitry Medvedev said he is satisfied with the results of Wednesday’ s talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.
The talks made it possible to evolve a plan for further cooperation, Medvedev told journalists.
“I consider our talks positive,” the Russian president said after the meeting.
“We considered all issues. It is very significant due to the tense situation on the Korean Peninsula,” he said, adding, “We evolved a plan for further cooperation.”
“The talks were sincere and substantial, and focused on many aspects. We talked about bilateral issues, regional security problems, the Korean nuclear programme and denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula,” he stressed.
“Our guest expressed deep gratitude for a possibility to travel to the Russian Federation and visit the Bureya hydropower plant,” Medvedev added.
According to Russian presidential spokeswoman Natalya Timakova, Kim Jong-il thanked Medvedev for humanitarian aid that Russia provided to North Korea.
The talks with President Medvedev are the last stopover of the visit to Russia by Kim Jong-il. In the evening the North Korean leader will leave for Pyongyang.
