Medvedev: Tandem Here to Stay

Russia’s ruling tandem is here for the long haul, outgoing President Dmitry Medvedev said Thursday, commenting on his cooperation with Prime Minister and president-elect Vladimir Putin.

“It’s not a bad thing when the country’s fate, its political processes depend not only on the will of just one person, who does whatever comes into his head, but when the decision-making process is based on discussion, when there are several people in the country who influence the political process,” Medvedev said.

This is movement toward democracy, he added.

“As for the prospects… we have outlined some. So I believe it is time everyone relaxed – all of this is here for the long haul,” he said.

Medvedev is widely expected to take up the post of prime minister after Putin’s inauguration as president.
