GORKI, July 21 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Dmitry Medvedev pledged to promote the creation of a working group for employment and social security in the G20.
Chairman of the Russian Federation of Independent Trade Unions Mikhail Shmakov asked the president about this step. Shmakov noted that several countries, including Mexico, which will preside in the G20 in 2012, oppose the creation of this working group. “But Russia will preside in the G20 in 2013. I believe that if Russia supports the creation of this group, this will be a good start in 2013,” Shmakov told the president.
“As for the idea to create this working group in the G20 I support it and believe that it would be absolutely right in general,” Medvedev said. “Moreover, we have discussed repeatedly social security issues at the G20 summits, particularly during the financial crisis,” the president added.
Shmakov asked Medvedev to give recommendations on the issue to Presidential Aide Arkady Dvorkovich, who is participating in a meeting of the G20 sherpas in Paris.
