A superb display by Lionel Messi has helped Barcelona to claim a 2-0 victory over Porto in the UEFA Super Cup.
The Champions League holders went in front in the 39th minute of the match in Manaco, with Messi leaving keeper Heilon with no chance after a reckless back pass from Guarin to make it 1-0.
In the second half, all Porto’s hopes of grabbing an equalizer were shattered by Rolando’s receiving a red card, after two yellows for fouls – both on Messi.
And it was Messi, who set up Cesc Fabregas for the second and final goal of the night on 88th minute making the final score 2-0.
Porto finished the game with nine men after Guarin collected a straight red in the 90th minute.
So Barcelona have lifted their fourth UEFA Super Cup in eight appearances and are now one title away from AC Milan, who have won the trophy five times.
