Law enforcement officers have stormed an apartment in the town of Buinaksk, Dagestan, in Russia’s North Caucasus, where three militants were holed up, a local law enforcement source said on Friday.
“In the morning the militants were once again asked to surrender but responded by returning fire,” the source said.
A law enforcement officer involved in the operation said that the militants might be part of a group engaged in illegal arms trading. Four members of that group were killed yesterday in a separate operation.
Residents have been evacuated from the area and classes at a nearby school have been cancelled.
