Militants planned terror attacks in Ingushetia during Ramadan

NAZRAN, August 25 (Itar-Tass) — Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Yevkurov said militants were planning acts of terror in the holy month of Ramadan.

“Thanks to information from local residents, two acts of terror have been prevented in the past two weeks,” Yevkurov told a news conference in Magas on Thursday.

He reminded that a regime of anti-terrorist operation was introduced in the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya and part of Nazran on Thursday, as local residents reported preparations for terrorist attacks in Ingushetia during Ramadan.

In the course of special operations in Nazran houses and the municipal district of Nasyr Kort, police defused two bombs, whose yields were, respectively, 3 and 5 to 10 kilograms of TNT.

Another bomb was set off as police were entering the house.

The Ingush leader urged the population to remain vigilant and help law-enforcement bodies to combat crime.

“The calm in the republic depends on each Ingush resident,” he noted.

He expressed the hope that residents will treat with understanding the inconveniences caused by the anti-terrorist operation regime.

A report form Ingushetia said the bombs found in Nazran and the Nasyr-Kort district were destroyed on the spot.

A search in a house in the Nasyr-Kort district found an assault rifle. Police detained the suspected owner.

The regime of anti-terrorist operation in the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya, Sunzha district, and part of Nazran, was introduced from 05:30, on Thursday, as local residents warned the police that militants could be hiding there and that they were planning sabotage and terrorist attacks.
