Miner, rescuer killed in Polish mine fire

A miner and a rescuer were killed in a fire at the Krupinski mine in the Polish town of Suszec, Polish media reported.

Ten miners were taken to hospital after a localized methane ignition occurred at the depth of 820 meters late on Thursday, one of them later died in hospital. Four other workers were trapped underground, but were evacuated safely.

During the rescue effort, emergencies services on the ground lost control with two rescuers, working in the danger zone. One of them managed to escape, the other was found dead.
