Monkey Found in Fir Tree in Siberia

A small monkey of an unidentified species was discovered on a coniferous tree in Kemerovo region, blithely eschewing principles of ecosystem formation, local administration reported on Monday.

“A small monkey, long tail. We gave it fruit, and an elderly local woman made calls to have it taken away,” a district official told RIA Novosti.

The monkey spent an entire day at the Zhurgavan village, where locals crowded to see the creature climbing fir trees, unafraid of humans, a villager said.

The monkey disappeared without a trace in the night, locals said. Rescuers in the western Siberian region said they never any calls about the creature.

There are no public zoos in the area, but the monkey could have run away from a private menagerie, locals said.
