Moscow concerned over non-selective use of force in Libya

Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev told the US Defense Secretary Robert Gates that Moscow is preoccupied with the way the UN resolution on a no-fly zone over Libya is being implemented.

Mr. Medvedev added that non-selective use of force is likely to cause casualties among the civilians.

He confirmed that Russia is ready to play the mediation role in the conflict in Libya.

The Kremlin`s press service says that the possibility that Russia might join the coalition forces in Libya was not included in the agenda.

Mr. Medvedev and Mr. Gates also discussed the US plans to deploy an anti-missile shield in Europe, which Russia sees as a threat to its national security.
