The Ostankino Distict Court in Moscow late on Wednesday approved of a petition by prosecutors to sanction the arrest of a former deputy general director of the Rosatom nuclear power corporation suspected of embezzling some 50 million rubles ($1.7 mln).
Yevgeny Yevstratov was arraigned at the Ostankino Distict Court earlier on Wednesday to face charges on a series of large-scale fraudulent acts at Rosatom and Atomflot enterprises under his supervision.
The court sanctioned Yevstratov’s arrest until August 27.
Prosecutors said in court that Yevstratov is suspected of two cases of embezzling budget funds allocated for the planning and construction of buildings for nuclear safety in Murmansk and scientific research.
The case is the result of a long-running investigation of corruption in Rosatom structures, which already saw 35 top managers fired and over 200 disciplined in the past year.
