Moscow’s mayor has confirmed that the capital is being enlarged by a whole new district.
The idea to push out the city limits was first voiced by President Medvedev in June. Moscow and the regional authorities then met and drew up new boundaries, with the result that more than 160 hectares will be added to the territory of the city.
The aim is to boost integration between the capital and the region, which the government says, will benefit locals.
Officials also hope to relocate government offices to the new district in a bid to ease congestion in the centre.
