Moscow Traffic Jams Stretch 3,000 km on Wednesday

Traffic jams in Moscow reached an overall length of 3,000 kilometers on Wednesday evening or about the distance between the Russian capital and Spain’s Barcelona, an analyst with the Yandex.Probki online traffic portal told RIA Novosti.

Wednesday is the last workday in Russia before a three-day holiday for International Woman’s Day on March 8, and many people are heading out of town.

Women’s Day is a widely observed holiday in Russia and some former Soviet republics.

The traffic jams on Moscow’s roads have been building incessantly since Tuesday, analyst Leonid Mednikov said.

New Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has pledged to eliminate Moscow’s traffic jams. President Dmitry Medvedev has said he will personally oversee the efforts.
