The Russian Embassy in Cairo has asked the Egyptian authorities to ensure the security of Russian tourists in the country following a number of assaults at Red Sea resorts, an embassy official said on Monday.
In the latest episode, a 22-year-old Russian woman was sexually assaulted at a Hurghada hotel on Friday, sustaining serious bruises and burns.
The woman, who accused a hotel employee, refused to submit to a DNA test.
Egypt is among the most popular Russian tourist destinations.
