MOSCOW, April 1 (RIA Novosti) – Brown and Himalayan black bears at the Moscow Zoo have started to wake up from their winter hibernation, the zoo’s spokeswoman said on Monday.
“The bears in the zoo have not yet [fully] awakened. They have just started to stand up in their cage. There is no full awakening yet. The bears are only drinking at the moment; they are not being fed yet,” the spokeswoman said.
There are two brown bears and three Himalayan black bears at the Moscow Zoo that hibernate during the winter. But the zoo is also home to sloth bears, a spectacled bear and polar bears and their cubs that never go into hibernation, the spokeswoman said.
