IRKUTSK, Sep 8 (PRIME) — Full fourth generation (4G) wireless network coverage in Russia may be ensured during one year after the start of network rollout, Igor Yegorov, acting director of MTS branch in Eastern Siberia and Far East, told reporters Thursday.
At present Russian mobile operators are waiting for the State Radio Frequency Commissions decision on the timeline of a commercial launch of 4G networks and start of licensing procedure, Yegorov said, adding that the commission is unlikely to make a decision in 2011.
Meanwhile, the Russian government approved in January a plan of using radio frequencies for developing innovative technology, under which 4G networks based on the Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology are expected to be commercially launched in Russia in 20142015.
