The Egyptian Ministry of Justice’s department for economic crimes imposed on Thursday travel bans on two daughters-in-law of deposed President Hosni Mubarak, Al Ahram online reported.
Heidy Rassekh and Khadiga El-Gammal, the wives of Mubarak’s sons Alaa and Gamal respectively, and their children Omar Alaa and Farida Gamal were prohibited from leaving the country in line with an investigation on corruption charges against Mubarak’s relatives.
Gamal and Alaa are currently being held in Torah Prison in the suburbs of Cairo over allegations of corruption and violence against protesters.
Their wives were not detained but they have been summoned by prosecutors several times for questioning.
Hosni Mubarak, 82, is being investigated over the deaths of hundreds of protesters during the 18-day popular uprising that forced him from power in February.
He is also under scrutiny for alleged abuse of power during his 30-year rule, including gas exports to Israel at a low price in a secretive deal that reportedly cost Egypt $714 million.
Mubarak has been under detention in a hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where he is being treated for heart problems. Preparations are under way to transfer him to a prison hospital in the capital, Cairo.
