The Russian embassy in Pakistan said on Wednesday it had received no official confirmation that Russian nationals were among militants killed earlier this week near Pakistan’s western border.
“We asked Pakistan’s foreign and interior ministries to provide official information on whether the dead militants had Russian passports. At the moment, there has been no official response,” Yaroslav Pavlov of the Russian embassy’s consular department said.
Pakistani media reported on Tuesday that up to five suspected “Chechen” militants, including three women, were killed at a checkpoint near the regional capital Quetta.
The Dawn portal cited a police source as saying that the attackers were “suicide bombers” and carried Russian passports with Iranian visas.
