North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has arrived in the eastern Siberia city of Ulan-Ude, where he is expected to hold a summit with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Kim’s armored train pulled into the city, some 5,500 kilometers east of Moscow, on August 22.
The reclusive leader met Medvedev’s envoy to Far Eastern Russia and local officials, ITAR-TASS reported, before driving off in a motorcade toward the shore of nearby Lake Baikal.
Talks between Medvedev and Kim are expected today near Ulan-Ude and could focus on a natural gas pipeline deal.
Kim arrived in Russia on August 20 on his first visit there in nine years.
Besides energy deals, Kim is also pushing to restart six-nation nuclear disarmament talks in exchange for aid.
