New York City Police broke up a pot-selling ring after 8,000 marijuana plants were discovered with a street value of about $8 million.
NYDP and federal Drug Enforcement Agency officers searched seven homes in upstate Sullivan County and collected thousands of plants, arresting 16 people. It was estimated each plan would deliver nearly a pounds worth of weed.
Authorities believed the pot was being sold throughout New York City and possibly as far south as Philadelphia. Police claimed the arrests have broken up the largest known indoor marijuana growing operation in New York.
Unconfirmed sources alleged that all 16 of those arrested were illegal immigrants.
