MOSCOW, November 7 (RIA Novosti) – US President Barack Obama would like to visit Russia, Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul said on Wednesday.
Obama would especially like to go to St. Petersburg, which he has never been to, McFaul added in an interview on Radio Ekho Moskvy.
He did not say exactly when the visit could take place.
Earlier on Wednesday Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Obama on his election victory and reiterated his invitation for Obama to visit Russia next year.
Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev added that he was “glad” the winner was “not someone who considers Russia enemy number one.”
