One Dead in North Caucasus Funeral Shooting

VLADIKAVKAZ, June 14 (RIA Novosti) – One person was killed and three injured in a drive-by shooting during a funeral in Russia’s North Caucasus on Thursday evening, a police source said.

The shooting took place in Beslan, a city in Russia’s Republic of North Ossetia. A group of attackers, driving a Lada car, fired shots from an assault rifle at people who gathered to pay their last respects to 40-year-old Alan Torchinov, gunned down on Wednesday evening in North Ossetia’s capital, Vladikavkaz.

Initial reports said four people were injured, with no casualties. However, a police source later said that one of the injured, apparently a relative to the deceased, succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

“The three injured persons are also said to be in critical condition,” the source said.

The attackers fled. A search for them is underway.
