WARSAW, August 13 (Itar-Tass) —— In a railway accident in central Poland one person died and 56 others were injured. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has confirmed the latest data.
“There was one fatality in the accident, fortunately, casualties are not as numerous as we had thought before,” Tusk said on the TV channel TVN24, adding that rescue work was still going on. Earlier it was reported that four died and 20 were injured.
An intercity express train, en route from Warsaw to the southern city of Katowice on Friday derailed near the town of Piotrkow-Trybunalski. According to police, the train was carrying about 280 passengers. The causes of the derailment remain unclear. Rescuers say that the death toll may rise.
