One Firefighter Killed, another Injured in Moscow House Fire

One firefighter was killed and another seriously injured as they were putting out a blaze at a building in the northeast of Moscow, a spokesman for the Moscow emergencies ministry’s department said on Saturday.

The fire at an old administrative three-storey building broke out late on Friday night engulfing the total area of 1,500 sq. m. (0.4 acres). As firefighters managed to contain the fire the building suddenly collapsed burying two firefighters.

They were both rushed to the hospital in critical condition. One of them later died and another remains in intensive care ward, the spokesman said.

In all, some 60 firefighting teams were involved in combating the blaze. Investigators are working to establish the cause of the fire.
