Prison authorities in the Sverdlovsk region in the Urals have opened an online store for inmates selling food and other items.
“Prisoners at the [Penal Colony 19] have begun receiving food through the Internet store,” the Federal Service for Execution of Punishments (FSIN) said. “At present, inmates can buy tea, condensed milk, cigarettes, matches, envelopes, stamps and other items.”
The prices were “reasonable” and the quality of the goods “fine,” FSIN said.
FSIN also said a video chat for inmates was recently launched at a nearby prison, and has proved a success.
