VLADIKAVKAZ, August 10 (Itar-Tass) —— An operation to rescue tourists who came from the Krasnodar territory is under way in the highland area of North Ossetia. One of the tourists died, hit by a rock sliding down a slope, a source in the press service of the North Ossetian Ministry for Emergency Situations told Itar-Tass.
The report reached the post of the Ministry for Emergency Situations about 4 p. m. Moscow time on Tuesday. A group of nine rescuers set out for the area on Wednesday morning. It will take them two days to reach the Gelfgat pass in the remote Iraf district of North Ossetia where the tourist group stopped.
“The Krasnodar tourists notified the ministry of their itinerary in advance, so the rescuers know where to reach them,” said Yulia Starchenko, the ministry’s press secretary.
The body of the 30-year old tourist is on a steep slope, where rocks’ descent is frequent. So a helicopter of the Ministry for Emergency Situations will be needed to recover the body.
