Over 300 Trucks Backed up at Latvia-Russia Border

Some 340 trucks are waiting in line at two border crossing points from Latvia to Russia, Latvian customs officials reported on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the line numbered 450 trucks.

Two border crossing points between the two countries do not cope with traffic as trade between the European Union and Russia is on the rise. Latvia has been an EU member since 2004.

The longest truck line on the Latvian-Russian border was registered in December 2007, when 2,200 trucks were waiting to cross the border.

Experts say new crossing points should be built to improve the situation.
