Pentagon blocks YouTube, other video sites

In the wake of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, the US military has opted to bloc video sharing sites due to overwhelming demand by personnel seeking information on the disaster.

The Cyber Command office has complete shut down any access to video sites, ranging from YouTube and GoogleVideo to Amazon.com. The office cited increased demand for Japan video footage, which uses bandwidth and hinders an already slow Pentagon Internet network.

The US military claims the new restrictions are in no way a reflection on the websites themselves or the content, but were blocked at the request of the US Pacific Command to better meet the needs of the military.
