Podcast: Discussing Sergei Magnitsky With Bill Browder, Plus LulzSec And ‘Ethical Hacking’

In Episode 29 of “The Blender,” Russian Service correspondent Irina Lagunina speaks with Bill Browder, once the largest U.S. investor in Russia. Browder has been campaigning around the world to hold Russian officials accountable for the death of his lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky.

Magnitsky was investigating a massive tax-fraud case connected to some of those officials when he arrested on allegedly trumped-up charges. He later died in prison under harsh conditions. This week, Browder talked to us about the U.S. State Department’s decision to put a number of Russians believed to be involved in the case on a visa blacklist.

The editor of RFE/RL’s English-language website, Luke Allnutt, takes a closer look at the hackers that are causing havoc by releasing confidential information from websites around the world. He interviews Sam Bowne, a professor and Internet expert who teaches a course on how to protect against hackers.

And in our “Different Beat” segment, correspondent Ron Synovitz learns about the Gothic harp from world-class performer Hana Blazikova. She takes a break from her European tour to play and talk about the instrument in our Prague studio.
