Russian Premier League referee Almir Kayumov is recovering in a psychiatric hospital in Moscow after being talked out of a suicide attempt, Sports, Tourism and Youth Politics Ministry Vitaly Mutko said Thursday.
“His condition is satisfactory right now,” Mutko told RIA-Novosti. “We don’t know the exact reasons that led him to this but we’re investigating.” A police spokesman said Kayumov, 44, was about to jump from the window of his apartment on Monday but was talked out of it by emergency workers.
“All we can say right now is he is in a [psychiatric] hospital and we’re in constant contact with his doctors who are monitoring his condition,” said Sergei Zuyev, head of the Football Referees Board.
