MOSCOW, July 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has sent a message of greetings to Truong Tan Sang on the occasion of his being elected President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The Kremlin press service quoted President Medvedev as saying that “Truong Tan Sang is known in Russia as a firm supporter of further strengthening of the relations of close cooperation between Russia and Vietnam which stood the test of time. The development of mutually advantageous cooperation with Vietnam in political, economic, humanitarian and other fields is a priority direction in Russia’s foreign politics in the Asia-Pacific region.
“Dear Mr. President, I hope for constructive cooperation with you for purposes of building Russian-Vietnamese comprehensive strategic partnership for the benefit of both countries and in the interests of ensuring peace, stability and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region,” Medvedev said in his message.
Medvedev also invited Truong Tan Sang to pay an official visit to the Russian Federation and suggested coordinating dates of the visit via diplomatic channels.
Vietnam’s National Assembly has appointed Truong Tan Sang the country’s new president on Monday.
Sang, 62, received more than 97 percent of the vote in his support.
