SMOLENSK, August 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, on a working visit in the Smolensk region, on Thursday went to the construction site of the Federal Medical Center of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Endoprposthethic Replacement. The four-storey main structure of the future center has already been built. The construction of other structures is under way.
Putin was shown the blueprints for the entire complex and was posted on the construction progress and the plans to equip the center and train the personnel for it. The Federal Medical Center in Smolensk has been under construction since 2008 and is to be completed by 2012. The center’s capacity will be over 1,500 operations a year. It will consist of three departments for adults, 50 places each, and one for children, for 15 places.
The main building will include a polyclinic, a surgical unit, a resuscitation unit, an X-ray unit, a clinical and diagnosing laboratory and a number of other units.
The building meets high safety standards and contemporary requirements to medical treatment.
The center will employ 585 medics who will treat patients from the Smolensk region and from five neighboring regions of Russia.
The total cost of the project is 2.5 billion rubles.
