Putin Signs Anti-Smoking Legislation Into Law

Vladimir Putin signed into law the anti-smoking bill that was approved by the Federation Council last week, a document published Monday on the head of state’s website said. The law bans smoking in state institutions, universities, schools and hospitals, as well as in elevators and stairwells and near metro stations starting June 1. A year later the ban will extend to include bars, restaurants, hotels and long-distance trains, as well as suburban transportation and public beaches.
