Record number of companies join "Earth Hour"

A   record number of companies and organizations worldwide have joined the environmental action “Earth Hour”, which will be held tonight. In Moscow, from 20.30 to 21.30, lights will be switched off at more than 75 sites. Among them, the building of Moscow State University, about 10 overpasses and bridges, the Palace of Sports at Luzhniki Stadium, as well as the famous Moscow “skyscrapers.”

Simultaneously, millions of people around the world will be switching off electricity. The organizer of the annual campaign is the World Wildlife Fund.

This year, the Foundation encourages participants to not only turn off the lights, but also embark on a new life after Earth Hour: start saving electricity, water, limiting use of automobiles, recycling trash and other waste.

Earth Hour was first held in Australia in 2007.
